The costs for this programme are fully covered by the federal government.<\/p>\n In the next few years, the \u2018Swiss Aid\u2019 private committee is formed and continues to build upon the aid work that was begun for young Swiss Abroad.<\/p>\n Swiss Aid\u2019s successful collaboration with the recently established \u2018Pro Juventute\u2019 foundation is reflected in the figures: In 1924, more than 3,000 young Swiss Abroad from all over Europe come to Switzerland for short holidays. The majority of them are from poor backgrounds, so this is a chance to spend a few carefree weeks in a child-friendly environment in their native country.<\/p>\n During the Second World War, many Swiss families who live abroad suffer severe hardship, which also affects many thousands of young Swiss Abroad. With the aim of providing help for those in need, the \u2018Swiss Aid \u2013 Holidays for Swiss Children Abroad\u2019 association establishes a foundation on 10 December 1939, whose primary purpose is to provide holidays for young Swiss Abroad.<\/p>\n Emergency assistance and support from \u2018Swiss Aid\u2019 is no longer necessary thanks to a worldwide economic boom, which also benefits Swiss families who live abroad. A greater priority is now placed on the Foundation\u2019s second objective \u2013 enabling young Swiss Abroad to discover their family\u2019s roots. In addition to holiday stays with host families, the range of holidays offered is expanded, and more camps exclusively for young Swiss Abroad are gradually added.<\/p>\n\n
